Introducing Evora Therapy
EVORA
Evora comes from the ancient word ebora, meaning yew tree. Yew trees symbolize endurance, regeneration, and quiet strength. Even after damage, they continue to grow, sending new life from within. The name Evora reflects the belief that healing is not about erasing the past, but about strengthening what remains. Growth is possible. Renewal comes from within.
Rooted in resilience.
Elva Burillo, MSW, LCSW, Certified TF-CBT Therapist
I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in trauma-informed therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. My work is centered on helping individuals navigate the effects of trauma, stress, and life challenges while strengthening resilience and emotional well-being.
My therapeutic approach combines evidence-based treatments—including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), EMDR, play therapy, and sandtray therapy— with expressive arts, movement, sensory-based practices, and sound healing to support regulation, self-expression, and deeper emotional processing.
I have completed over 200 hours of specialized play therapy training and am actively pursuing my Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential. I currently serve as Treasurer on the New Mexico Association for Play Therapy Board, where I support efforts to expand access to play therapy and play therapy training.
I believe therapy should be collaborative, individualized, and grounded in safety and trust. My goal is to create a space where clients feel supported in exploring their experiences, building new skills, and moving toward lasting growth and healing.

Children often don’t yet have the words to explain their feelings—play therapy gives them a safe and natural way to express themselves through play.
“Some days, surviving is an achievement in itself. You don’t have to be productive, positive, or put together. Just be. Take the next step, the next moment. That’s enough for today.”
